Rescuers say Cape Town firefighter injured on duty is recovering well at home

Cape Town’s Fire and Rescue Service says the firefighter injured while fighting a raging fire in the Mother City is recovering well at home.

The fire broke out in the Silvermine on Friday and flared up on Sunday.

Light rain has been forecast for Cape Town on Tuesday, and fire crews are hopeful that it’ll help expedite efforts to extinguish the fire.

The City’s Fire and Rescue Services says a female firefighter from Hout Bay fire station injured both her legs on Sunday while busy trying to put out the blaze.

Spokesperson Jermaine Carelse says several ground crews remain on the fire lines battling the blaze in Groot and Klein Constantia areas.

“The female firefighter that was injured in the early hours of Sunday morning she went to the hospital, and they checked her out and she sustained soft tissue damage and she’s currently recovering at home.”

He says there’s been no other injuries or damage to property reported.
