LPC disciplinary hearing into Advocate Dali Mpofu’s conduct postponed

Advocate Dali Mpofu

The disciplinary hearing into the conduct of Advocate Dali Mpofu has been postponed at the Legal Practice Council (LPC)’s offices in Pretoria.

Proceedings had a bleak start on Wednesday morning due to a power outage.

Mpofu has been hauled before the council to answer alleged transgressions.

Despite the power outage that prevented the start of the disciplinary hearing into Mpofu’s conduct, it also emerged that the Legal Practice Council has amended its charge sheet against the senior legal practitioner.

Mpofu initially faced seven charges, but some have now been withdrawn while others have been slightly amended.

Among those withdrawn is the charge that Mpofu contravened the LPC’s code of conduct when he said he spent a night with then Supreme Court of Appeal (SCA) president, Mandisa Maya, during her February 2022 interview for chief justice before the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).

But Mpofu did not come to the hearing alone, he was flanked by several supporters, among them impeached public protector, Advocate Busisiwe Mkhwebane – who could be struck off the roll of advocates herself following an announcement by the LPC to launch an application before the high court to have her struck from the roll of advocates.

Advocate Muzi Sikhakhane was also among the familiar faces at the LPC’s Pretoria offices.

Meanwhile, some supporters of the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party, which Mpofu joined in late 2024, gathered outside the LPC’s offices to back him.
